THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES bring together the history of dozens of collaborations, hundreds of albums and thousands of concerts. The result is world-class musicianship and a shared instinct that infuses their connoisseur’s songbook of recordings with a confidence that only derives from years of high-level experience.
The band traces their roots back to the hit series SONS OF ANARCHY, where, as The Forest Rangers, they acted as the musical muse throughout the show’s 7 seasons. They began recording covers and original songs for the hit series; unknowingly, it was the start of something very unique and special.
But it’s a new day and with that comes a new band. So who exactly are these THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES?
They are Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson) on bass and vocals, Phil Shenale (Tori Amos, Jane’s Addiction) on keys, Billy Harvey (Patty Griffin) on guitar and vocals, Michael Urbano (Cracker, Sheryl Crow) on drums, Bob Thiele, Jr. on vocals and guitar (Bonnie Raitt, Mavis & Pop Staples) and, of course, Katey Sagal, singing, playing guitar and percussion.
From the start, THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES decided to dedicate their sound to preserving the long lineage of great songs and records that they grew up with. To that end, the band performs only cover songs, bringing each member’s own individual experience to a carefully crafted repertoire of familiar and unfamiliar songs to which they have applied their our own unique interpretations.
As evidenced on their debut recording, INTRODUCING THE RELUCTANT APOSTLES, the energy and vitality of the band is clearly on display. As for their live show, imagine all that, and multiply by 10!
Greg Antista & The Lonely Streets
Greg Antista & The Lonely Streets
here’s a spirited new sound rising up from the Southern California live circuit. Greg Antista and the Lonely Streets are a rock ‘n’ roll quartet with deep roots in the area’s local punk rock scene.
The Lonely Streets’ upcoming debut album Shake, Stomp and Stumble recalls the sincerity of Johnny Cash and the country-infused, working class anthems of Social Distortion. Its nine partystarting songs are anchored by indelible melodies, heartfelt vocals, powerful musicianship, and
a steadfast sense of community.
Although frontman Greg Antista has known each of his band members for decades, The Lonely Streets have only been in existence for a year, having played their first gig on February 23, 2018 in Huntington Beach, CA. The lineup is comprised of Antista (lead vocals, songwriter, guitar), Jessica Kaczmarek (lead guitar, backing vocals, mandolin, piano), Warren Renfrow (bass), and Jorge E. Disguster (drums, backing vocals). The members’ previous group affiliations are
extensive: Greg (Joyride, Foxy), Jessica (Busstop Hurricanes, Russell Scott & the Red Hots, Bourbon Jones), Warren (Cadillac Tramps, Manic Hispanic, Final Conflict, and tours with Adolescents and the Damned), Jorge (Mink Daggers, Mr. Mirainga).
Antista grew up in Fullerton, CA and once he reached his teens, he became fully invested in the flourishing Orange County punk scene of the late 1970s/early ‘80s. One of the tightest bonds he forged in high school was with Steve Soto of Agent Orange and Adolescents, a staunch friend
and ally who tragically died in 2018 at the age of 54. “I had never thought about playing an instrument until 1979 when punk rock exploded at my high school, Troy High School in Fullerton,” reveals Antista. “I had members of The Adolescents, Agent Orange and Social Distortion as my schoolmates and they were all playing backyard parties and their first local club gigs. Being that close to the bands and music made many of us pick up guitars. At 17, I got my first bass guitar from a pawn shop and immediately found it to be the release I had been looking for. I started writing my own songs.” Soto wasn’t involved in Antista’s earliest bands, The G-Men and The Bleeding Hearts, but by 1990 Soto was eager to bring his buddy on board with a new project. The resulting band, Joyride, with Antista assuming the role of co-vocalist and guitarist, toured frequently and released a pair of well-received pop-punk albums, Johnny Bravo (1992) and Another Month of Mondays (1994). In tribute to Soto, The Lonely Streets deliver a sweet, melancholic cover of his 2016 tune “Forever” on Shake, Stomp and Stumble.
Annika Bennett featuring Taylor Mackall
Annika Bennett featuring Taylor Mackall
New York born, ASCAP award winning singer-songwriter Annika Bennett wrote her first song at age 9 and hasn’t stopped since. She left NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at 18 years old and moved to Nashville upon signing an artist development deal with Sony Records. After two years of label-booked co-writes, Annika realized that her best songs were spawned out of solitude, prompting her to terminate the deal and become an independent artist in the most literal sense.
Annika’s profound insight into human emotions is complemented by her ability to capture and find meaning in moments that are often overlooked. This results in songs rich in boldness, honesty, reflection, and healing - with a sound that is an amalgamation of folk, pop and indie.
At age 21, Annika has already written over four hundred songs – both for her own solo artist project, as well as with/for other artists.
