We couldn’t ask for more Moore. Master funk and jazz drummer Stanton Moore will be joining us at The Mint EVERY WEDNESDAY IN JULY! Still better: Not only will you be able to enjoy the spoils of Stanton Moore Trio’s mega-talent, but prior to each night’s SM3 show, Stanton will be offering drum clinics, which are FREE. There is a different theme to each week’s lesson too.

Better yet: We are offering a Stanton Moore Trio Ticket Package that gets you all four SM3 shows for just sixty bones! Individual show tix are $18/advance through The Mint site, or $20 day of show.

STANTON MOORE FREE DRUM CLINICS, 7-8 pm (All Ages)

7/6 ‘New Orleans Street Beats’ – Stanton will cover some of the history of New Orleans second line and Mardi Gras Indian rhythms and the similarities and differences between them.
7/13 ‘Buzz Rolls’ – Stanton will cover the 5 exercises he used to help develop his unique approach to buzz rolls and will discuss how he integrates them into his playing.
7/20 ‘Stickings’ – Stanton will cover some of the sticking techniques he uses most and will demonstrate how to apply them around the kit.
7/27 ‘Funk’ – Stanton will cover some of the different aspects of funk and New Orleans funk drumming, as well as how to develop playing in between straight and swing.

The power of music is undeniable, and its impact on child development well documented. The Mint is committed to music education and entertainment for children, and we’d like to highlight some superb organizations and upcoming events.

Saturday, February 12: FAMILY TIME! Songs and Stories from 2011 Grammy® Children’s Music Nominees at The Mint

Presented by the Children’s Recording Arts Alliance, your entire family will rock, bop and sing along with these incredible music and spoken word nominees for the 2011 Grammy® Awards. Confirmed performances from: JUSTIN ROBERTS, BILL HARLEY, THE BATTERSBY DUO, STEVE PULLARA with ORAN ETKIN and JUDY PANCOAST.

Non-walking babies ages one and under are free. All net proceeds from the concert will benefit Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.

Concertgoers can expect special appearances from Nina, Warehouse Mouse and other characters from the TV series. Each Month at The Mint: SCHOOL OF ROCK
The School of Rock was founded in 1998 and has over 60 schools nationwide. The schools teach kids ages 7 to 17 to play music by teaching them “classic” rock n’ roll, and having them perform on stage. The Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars – a crash course in south Louisiana’s rich musical history. An eclectic mix of soulful blues, New Orleans funk, hoodoo rhythms, Cajun Zydeco, and gritty rock-n-roll, the band takes listeners through many of the genre that has made southern Louisiana music special.

The band features the who’s who of Louisiana music including wetlands activist and roots music star Tab Benoit, Grammy award winning Neville Brother Cyril Neville, Grammy award winning song-writer and Alligator recording Artist Anders Osborne, New Orlean’s Big Chief Monk Boudreaux who has been featured and honored in the HBO series Treme, three time BMA nominee Johnny Sansone, one of today’s most influential drummers Johnny Vidacovich and master Louisiana Fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux.

The Lee Boys, here on 10/7, are one of America’s finest African-American sacred steel ensembles.

“Sacred steel” is a type of music described as an inspired, unique form of Gospel music with a hard-driving, blues-based beat. The musical genre is rooted in Gospel, but infused with rhythm and blues, jazz, rock, funk, hip-hop, country and ideas from other nations.

The Lee Boys are a family group consisting of three brothers, Alvin Lee (guitar), Derrick Lee and Keith Lee (vocals) along with their three nephews, Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel guitar), Alvin Cordy Jr. (7-string bass) and Earl Walker (drums).
