
Shukura “Shak” Holliday; LA native and global music entertainer. When you hear her voice you are transformed with a soulful breathe of fresh air, as you recognize the extraordinary.
She began her career at 16, songwriting and performing background vocals on numerous projects throughout Los Angeles. The third daughter of legendary vocal coach Doc Holliday, Shukura was exposed to entertainment and diverse genres of music at an early age. At 18, Shukura moved to Brooklyn, New York to attend Pratt Institute where she majored in Communications Design and studied classical opera. There she spent time playing the role of student by day. By night she was sneaking into nightclubs to perform, listen to other artist and further develop her music and vocal techniques.
Whether in Brooklyn or Manhattan, on the subway or wherever she could gather a crowd, Shukura was ready and willing to entertain. Her first expression-album “Collage” was circulated as an independent mix-tape. In school, Shukura collaborated on numerous music projects with other artist from around the globe. Thus, allowing her the freedom to create eclectic music collaborations with diverse artists from alternative-Indy bands to local hip-hop superstars.
Shukura has had the opportunity to work with artist such as Japanese hip-hop group Takarabune from Tokyo, performing live female vocals on the hit underground record “Don’t Matter None”. Her acquaintance with French Electro-Soul group “Outlines” allowed Shukura to co-write and perform the end credits song “Immaculate” with Achozen for the blockbuster film Babylon A.D.
Shukura is now working diligently on her solo-debut album; creating a unique and appealing sound. A fusion, combining a soulful delivery, witty lyrics, electro-hip-pop beats with classical structure. Drawing from a continuum of inspirations from Josephine Baker to Bjork, Shukura is bound to share her elemental gifts with the world.
