If you are wondering what to expect from Minus Ned, here’s a suggestion: the unexpected.
Originally formed as a band paying homage to the jam bands of their generation and before, the evolution of Minus Ned’s sound over the years has proven one thing: no genre is too big or small for the group to tackle. Go to a Minus Ned show, and you won’t be sure how to label them. Rock? Blues? Jazz? Funk? How about all of the above?
The band originated in 2002 in Woodbridge, CT, when songwriter Mike Martens and drummer Zach Guglin recorded a homemade demo with then-guitarist Ned Bridgers. When Ned left for college a few months later, Mark Pinkert stepped right in along with bassist Trevor Raffauf, and just like that, the group and band name was born.
In the summer of 2010, the band added the vocal duo of Marissa DuBois, an Arizona native who’s been featured on both MTV and the Vans Warped Tour; and longtime friend and collaborator Todd Kramer, also from the band’s home state of Connecticut. The new EP, “The Wayside Bounce,” is the first to feature the group’s new singers.
Minus Ned’s first full-length LP will be released in early 2011. You’re welcome to expect what it will sound like, but you’d just be wasting your time.
