Having formed literally in Lloyd’s garage, as a way to shake off the suburban sedateness of the Napa Valley, the duo that is Lloyd’s Garage has quickly established themselves as a “can’t miss” act at legendary venues including the Bay Area’s Uptown, Bottom of the Hill, and CafĂ© du Nord. After a year or so of near devotional dedication, tucked away in Lloyd’s Garage writing and retiring countless songs all for the sake of crafting their own sound, their debut CD has finally arrived. They will be touring in support of From the Comfort of Your Home in late spring/early summer 2010.
This first full-length CD for the hard-rocking, genre-busting duo combines frontman Seth Heitzmann’s sensual growls and soul-searching intonation with his inspired guitar riffs and Lloyd Llewelyn’s stellar drumming. Lloyd plays tightly wound, precise, yet explosive, with head-bouncing rhythmic results no matter which way he comes down on his kit. Every beat complements Heitzmann’s song-writing skills, his lyrics dense with narrative, yet catchy as they access that place in your brain where songs just stick.
Sometimes compared to the Black Keys, LG plays out a paradox of unpolished garage rock and sophistication in an alt/indie vein, influenced by soulful hill-country blues, some southern rock for good measure, and throwback instrumentation that’s near-pure homage to the uncomplicated rock of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Though not so pure that they don’t dish up their own distinct brand of down and dirty musical grit that keeps every track fresh. Keep an ear open – they have finished their wine, picked up their instruments, and are about to exit Lloyd’s Garage.
