DJ Rome

DJ Rome of The Soul Children has been a native of Los Angeles his entire life. Heavily influenced by such artists as George Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic, Cameo, Brass Construction, War, Earth Wind & Fire and Prince, Rome noticed a disturbing absence of these funk icons in most DJ sets throughout the L.A. underground, and thus, he seized the opportunity to fill the void. His extended and recurring residencies have included venues like Industry Jazz Cafe (Culver City), The Blu Monkey (Hollywood), Bar One (N. Hollywood), Air Conditioned Lounge (Santa Monica), Cafe Luna Sol, On The Rox (The Roxy), Viper Room, 5th Street Dicks/Chaos Cafe in Leimert Park, House of Blues (Sunset Strip,) The Mint, Zanzibar, and Little Temple. He has been a resident of every Soul Children function including “Brown Rice N’BBQ,” “Together,” “Together Again,” and “JUJU”, and has been the in-house DJ or guest MC with such artists as George Clinton, Lina, Joi, Blackbyrd McKnight (P. Funk/The Headhunters), Mark De Clive-Lowe (The Politik), Raul Midon, Kim Hill, PJ Butta, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band (New Orleans), Laurnea (pronounced Lor-Nay) {Arrested Development, Loose Ends), Joy Jones, Madlib, Ladybug Mecca (The Digable Planets), KC & The Sunshine Band, Res (pronounced REESE), Eric Roberson, Dead Prez, Graph Nobel, Michael McDonald, Teena Marie, Sy Smith, Erykah Badu, and Kenny Lattimore & Chante Moore. For 7 years, Rome was a production assistant on KCRW with Garth Trinidad on the show formerly known as “Chocolate City.” Furthermore, he has worked with the Temple Bar in Santa Monica, California, a popular West coast venue that was known globally for hosting some of the most universally eclectic artists throughout the world with a distinct focus on neo-soul music. He was responsible for promotions, production assistance, website management, and writing copy for the weekly email blasts. He advances his plight with continuing DJ residencies and guest appearances at venues throughout the city such as “WAX ON” with his Soul Children partner Al Jackson and DJs Twin Tables (Tanya & Jeanette), as well as “THE 4-MULA” (The Formula) with Al Jackson and DJ JEDI of The Digable Planets.
